I am greatly privileged to be elected as the 48th President of the Kandy Society of Medicine (KSM) for the year 2017 /18. I pledge that I will do my utmost as the new President for the progress of the KSM.
The KSM was formally established as a society in 1964, in the central hill capital. Since its inception, the KSM has influenced improving knowledge, skills and attitudes of the medical profession, in the region and in Sri Lanka.
I and the Council of the KSM will continue the routine academic programmes, including the very popular Wednesday CME program. Along with the council, I hope to promote ‘Collaborations for Global Health’, the theme for the year. The KSM will be made a place to collaborate, interact, share and learn for all medical officers in Kandy, Sri Lanka and the world. CME lectures, special updates, Foundation sessions and the Annual Academic Sessions will be geared to achieve the theme of the KSM.
I and the Council of the KSM will prepare the academic programme to be useful to all grades of doctors, including the postgraduates, and we sincerely request and encourage them to get involved with the KSM. I thank the previous councils for arranging live webcast of the CME programme and will continue to webcast to Peradeniya, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kegale and Nawalapitiya.
Finally, I take this opportunity to thank the immediate Past President Dr. Anoma Siribaddana, her council and all the past Presidents and their councils of the KSM for their invaluable contribution, which has made the KSM what it is today.
